Part of Landing page software operations: gates and rollback
Who owns what on a landing page, from the offer to the domain
Assign landing page software accountabilities for evidence, data, accessibility, security, release and recovery without assuming a universal team.
Landing page software team roles are accountabilities, not a prescribed set of job titles. One qualified person may carry several duties, while specialists may divide them. Each release still needs named decision owners with the competence and authority to assess their gate.
What to take away
- Landing page roles are accountabilities, not job titles, and one person may hold several.
- Each release needs named decision owners with the competence and authority to assess their gate.
- A page owner cannot waive a failed specialist gate, so independent approval must still be recorded.
- UK non-broadcast advertisers should hold documentary evidence before distributing objective claims.
- A vacancy leaves the affected gate on hold rather than complete.
Published list method
Research date: 6 September 2026.
Scope: accountabilities needed to operate one landing-page release for an organisation in England, using UK regulator and government sources plus the global WCAG 2.2 technical standard.
Inclusions: roles with a distinct release decision, evidence obligation or recovery task.
Exclusions: universal job titles, headcount ratios, salaries, agency structures and supplier-specific support roles.
Ranking status: non-ranked. Sequence below follows the release record, not importance.
Conflicts: no supplier payment, affiliate relationship or product access informed this desk research. No staff interviews or workforce study were conducted.
1. Page and offer owner
This owner defines the visitor task, business purpose, legal entity behind the offer and acceptable outcome. They approve the brief and nominate specialist reviewers, but cannot waive a failed specialist gate.
For objective advertising claims, the owner ensures an evidence keeper exists. The ASA's current substantiation advice explains that UK non-broadcast advertisers should hold documentary evidence before distributing claims consumers are likely to treat as objective.
2. Content and rights custodian
This accountability maintains the copy version, claim ledger, qualifications and asset register. The custodian checks that the final headline, body, image, call to action and connected advert match the reviewed evidence. They also record who owns each image, font, template or testimonial and what the licence permits.
The Intellectual Property Office's digital-image copyright notice explains why online availability is not enough to establish permission. A qualified IP reviewer resolves uncertain use.
3. Data and communications reviewer
This reviewer maps form fields, sources, recipients, retention, deletion, tracking technologies and proposed roles. They keep the UK GDPR analysis separate from PECR questions and any later electronic marketing. The reviewer records the decision for the actual configuration, not a generic software setting.
The ICO published final storage and access technologies guidance on 29 April 2026. It covers cookies, pixels, scripts and related technologies across the UK. The named qualified reviewer must recheck it on publication day.
4. Accessible-journey reviewer
This person tests the page's critical task with documented environments and evidence. Their scope includes headings, labels, keyboard access, focus, instructions, errors, confirmation and privacy controls. They distinguish automated findings from manual completion.
The W3C forms tutorial gives technical guidance on labels, grouping, instructions and error handling. WCAG is not, by itself, a conclusion about an organisation's duties or the tested page, so legal and accessibility reviews remain separate.
5. Platform and domain custodian
The custodian controls publishing access, domain configuration, integrations, logs and recovery contacts. They remove stale access, retain the approved configuration and prove the rollback route.
The NCSC's guidance on using SaaS securely addresses identities, permissions, logging, monitoring and retirement for UK organisations. It supports the role boundary without certifying any supplier.
6. Release and incident controller
This role verifies that approvals refer to the same candidate. At publication, the controller records the URL, checksum, account, time and rollback target. Afterwards, they classify faults and coordinate the safe action.
The NCSC incident management collection separates preparation, response and recovery. Reporting or notification decisions still belong to competent legal, data-protection and security reviewers.
Assign the accountabilities
Put a person's name, deputy, authority boundary and evidence location beside each role. If one person holds several roles, record how independent specialist approval will be obtained. A vacancy leaves the affected gate on hold; it is not permission for the page owner to mark it complete.
Before you act
- Name a decision owner and deputy for each role.
- Record the authority boundary and evidence location for each role.
- Confirm approvals refer to the same candidate before publication.
- Log the URL, checksum, account, time and rollback target at publication.
- Recheck the ICO storage and access technologies guidance on publication day.
- Obtain independent specialist approval where one person holds several roles.
Common questions
What does the page and offer owner decide?
This owner defines the visitor task, business purpose, legal entity behind the offer and acceptable outcome. They approve the brief and nominate specialist reviewers. They cannot waive a failed specialist gate, and for objective advertising claims they ensure an evidence keeper exists.
What does the content and rights custodian keep?
The custodian maintains the copy version, claim ledger, qualifications and asset register. They check the final headline, body, image, call to action and connected advert match the reviewed evidence. They also record who owns each image, font, template or testimonial and what the licence permits.
What happens if a role is vacant?
A vacancy leaves the affected gate on hold. It is not permission for the page owner to mark it complete. Where one person holds several roles, the record must show how independent specialist approval will be obtained.
